Does exercise bore you?
Or hard to start because in order to say yes to exercise, you feel like you have to say no to something else? Is it hard to see how to fit an exercise routine in your day or even feel excited to do it?
As we are all individuals, our workout routines should be too; personalized to your lifestyle.
A lot of the time it can be hard to start or continue because the common fitness routines we see don’t fit for us. Setting aside long stretches of time, unknown or uncomfortable environments, movements that feel like chores, remembering workout gear, or following a specific schedule can all be factors that stop us in our tracks from regular and consistent movement.
Where to start?
If you are finding it hard to begin or maintain a daily fitness routine and would like to, start here by answering these questions.
What kind of movement and activity get you excited?
I.e. Walking, hiking, gardening, frisbee golf, biking, stretching, dancing, etc.
What movement throughout the day do you currently do to get your daily tasks done?
I.e. Getting to work, moving throughout your house or building, cleaning, cooking, bathing, etc.
Then look at what you can tack on to what you are currently doing to move to get yourself fitness snacks (short but frequent activity) throughout the day?
I.e. instead of walking down the hallway to the break room, can you do walking lunges down the hallway.
When cooking, alternate legs in a standing figure 4 position to get in a little extra stretching.
You’re out walking, grab a set of elevated push-ups on the end of a slide or side of a wall.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Park further away from the entrance.
Sit in a deep squat while you brush your teeth, watch t.v. or, work on your computer.
There are many ways you can grab a little extra activity throughout the day. Done consistently these small fitness snacks add up quite a bit. There may be many reasons you would want to incorporate this daily, but at the base of it, this is a great way to maintain a healthy, well-functioning body.
