Basic Hygiene Please

Imagine if someone came up to you and said “Man I haven’t brushed my teeth in a month”.  I’m pretty sure I would notice something, like the smell of their breath, as they approached.   That would probably be followed up “With my last dentist visit didn’t go so well, I’ve gotta make some changes”.

Now imagine someone who hasn’t done anything to take care of their body for that same amount of time.   Think you would notice?    Do you think your doctor would notice?   You probably notice if you’ve been in that boat.   Your joints start to feel tight and achy.   Every little activity causes you to gasp for air.

As absurd as that sounds as fitness coaches we hear this nearly everyday…around fitness terms.     “I haven’t worked out in months.   My doctor says I need to lose weight.   I can’t walk up the stairs without breathing hard and my knees hurting.”  These are EXACTLY the same things.

We all make time to do the “simple” things for our health.   I brush my teeth, change my underwear, and shower every single day.   Taking care of my body SHOULD be something that I include in that list EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!

I don’t have time…I make it

I know, some days going to the gym and putting my heart and soul into a workout just isn’t there.   I don’t have the time or the energy.   Doesn’t mean I’m off the hook completely.   It’s a perfect opportunity to take a walk, or do some Yoga, or prepare a healthy meal.   Personally I really need to get better at pushups and I can do those anywhere.  People at work give me funny looks, but yes I do pushups at work in my cubicle.

You have time to do something to take care of your body.   Instead of making an excuse, carve out some time every single day and DO something.    Your body will show you how much it loves the change.

Also shower, wear deodorant, and brush your teeth.   Those of us standing near year deserve that too.
