CrossFit is full of difficult movements. Many people who have never tried CrossFit before look at the workouts and think they will never be able to achieve the way it is written (as Rx’d). Things like Handstand Pushups, Muscle Ups, or pistols are seemingly impossible. And for many this may keep them from trying CrossFit. However, CrossFit Affiliates, like CrossFit Banshee, are the perfect place to achieve the unthinkable.
Coaching
At CrossFit Banshee, each class is lead by certified instructors that help each member learn and grow no matter where they are starting. Our coaches give each person something to work on to improve their movement and get into a place to be successful. In many cases this will involve breaking down a difficult movement to something that is doable. For example, the muscle up can be broken down by becoming more proficient at the pullup and the dip.
Playing
After learning something new on a difficult movement it is time to play with it. At CrossFit Banshee (and most affiliates) these difficult movements are programmed into our workouts occasionally giving everyone a chance to play. This play is where the magic really happens. Regularly playing with these difficult movements with active feedback from a skilled coach keeps our athletes safe, and keeps them moving towards the goal of achieving something profound. The slow and steady gains eventually lead to first pullups, confidence doing a Handstand pushup and ultimately a more complete well rounded athlete. This approach isn’t new or only utilized at CrossFit gyms, but is at that center of how we teach and perform better.
Bottom line
The moral of this story is if you are working on something that is difficult and feels like you might never achieve, ask for help from one of the Banshee coaches and keep playing. Don’t get down when you can’t get something the first time. Steady growth will keep you safe and moving towards your end goal.
